Very rare rolex ref 6609 Thunderbird. This is the same watch as the Rolex 6609 given to USAF Thunderbird captain Charles Maultsby which has been described on Rolex Passion Report. The watch remains in original condition and has been serviced in 1998 by Rolex Geneva, the sticker from service is still on the back. The original jubilee bracelet is in great condition for its age and shows some stretch and signs of wearing.
Actually the serial number of this Rolex 6609 Thunderbird is very close to the “Maultsby Rolex’, It also has the same ‘old style’ jubilee bracelet and ‘swiss’ signed dial with roulette date, of course without the thunderbird logo! The radium ‘dots’ has been removed by rolex service as they could be harmful. The dial is in unrestored condition!
The Rolex ref 6609 is the real thunderbird. This early piece from end 1958 (serial 432.6xx) is a true piece of rolex history.
