Vintage Rolex datejust ref 1601
For sale is this very rare and early datejust from the beginning of the 1960’s. Typical for these early 1601 watches are the leaf hands / dagger hands together with a flat fluted bezel which is more distinguished compared to later bezels. The hands and bezels are often changed at Rolex service which makes it hard to find an original example. The case of this 18k gold Rolex is in very good shape, it has been gently polished in the past but still remains it strong lugs and body. The condition of the early fluted bezel is just perfect.
A beautiful and rare Radium dial
Till the mid 1960’s it was very common to use Radium as luminous material for watches. Later on dial manufacturers started to use Tritium and Luminova which we see in today’s modern watches. As the production and application of Radium dial and hands is very dangerous, rolex stopped using Radium for their dials or service dials after 1965. The piece we offer for sale still has it’s original Radium dial. It shows a nice patina and it has very rare markers, especially at the 6′ and 9′ o clock. These oval faceted markers are only seen on very early datejust watches.
A gentlemens gold watch or classic ladies watch
The Rolex Datejust has been designed for men in the 1950’s. With it’s 36mm case size it’s a very gentle watch which could be worn on a suit but casual as well. We fitted the watch on a casual vintage leather strap but can supply it with a classic alligator strap as well.
despite the fact the watch has been designed for men it could be worn by the classic lady as well. With today’s standard of bigger and bigger watches a 36mm case may be the perfect case size for the lady.
