Rolex Underline dial
rolex underline dial watches are pieces from the early 1960’s when rolex stopped using (radioactive) radium for dial and hand painting. They started to use tritium as luminous material for dial and hands. The horizontal line on the dial indicates that the dial contains ‘no radium’.
The ‘Underline dial’ only seems to appear on very few rolex watches like the datejust, gmt and submariner. Most of these watches are produced in 1963. These dials are ‘swiss’ signed but contain tritium in stead of radium. The ‘underline’ indicates the transition period.
notice the white gold indexes on the dial which are faceted with 4 facets on each marker. This is seldom seen at rolex dials, it makes the dial very attractive.
The Rolex Datejust we offer here has a sharp case with engine turned bezel, the patina on the dial and original ‘leaf hands’ are beautiful dark creamy orange. The watch has been inspected by our watchmaker and comes with one year guarantee.
