Rolex Double Swiss (‘Fab Suisse’) signed dial
This very rare Rolex is one of the earliest models dating back to the early 1930’s. This is shortly after the Rolex trademark has been patented by founder Hans Wilsdorf . The watch condition is fabulous seeing the age, also all parts are fully original and dating back to the 1930’s. It’s very hard to find an exemple like this Rolex, with it’s 34mm case size it was a quite big watch for the period. The coin edge bezel makes this watch very elegant and unique from all other Rolex models.
The watch case is made from 18k solid Rose gold. This is probably one of the first Rolex watches made in Rosé gold, the case has a massive and solid body and the condition is flawless. It bears it original crown and original fixed bars between the lugs.
Now we come on the most impressive thing of the watch. The original Radium dial with a double Swiss signature. This watch has been delivered to the French market, these watches where signed ‘Swiss Made’ as well as ‘Fab Suisse’. These double signed Swiss dials are very collectible and hard to find. Especially in full original condition.
The hands of the watch are made of blued steel and radium as well. These are the original hands although the colour of the hands have a greenish hue these are the original radium hands which are often found in military Rolex watches.
Inside the case runs a 10.5 cal hunter movement. It runs perfectly and is keeping time. As the movement is unsigned it was very difficult to find reference material. My Japanese watch friend found a similar model in steel from 1930 in a Japanese collectors book which will come together with the watch (see last picture).
Please let us know if you have any questions about this very rare and collectible rolex watch from the early 1930’s.
