Description
Cartier Grande Tank Cintrée 9-ligne from 1965
Cartier Tank Cintrée with a Paris signed dial from 1965. A very rare and elegant oversized model by Cartier Paris. The 9-ligne Tank Cintrée was introduced in 1921 and was an extremely large watch for that time with its case measuring 46.5mm by 23mm. The curved case perfectly fits on the gents wrist.
Cartier Paris
The most sought after versions of the Cartier Cintrée are the elegant pieces retailed at Cartier Paris, the case displays the makers mark ‘EJ’ and the usual French hallmarks which remains very crisp and untouched.
This version of the Cartier Cintree was powered with a manual wound movement by Jaeger LeCoultre.
Condition
The Cartier Cintrée 9-lignes has always been a scarce and rare watch. To find an example from the 1960’s is extremely hard, especially in good and honest condition. Since the recent Cartier hype, many altered or non original examples pop up in the market. This example however has been fully documented with a history being sold at Phillips Auction before the actual hype. The condition is fully original and well preserved. The case is sharp and minimally polished, all numbers and hallmarks are clearly visible. Furthermore the dial has never been restored, it shows some flaws of time giving the watch a very natural and vintage feeling. The true value of a rare vintage watch is the originality where minor flaws can tell something about the watch history and production processes back in the days.
