Rolex day-date ‘Gilt dial’ from the 1960’s
Up for sale is this beautiful Rolex daydate. This early ref 1803 dates back to the early 1960’s and is one of the first example of the ref 1803 which has been produced for many years. Early examples of the day-date 1803 and datejust 1601 feature a ‘swiss only’ dial and have a thinner bezel. Especially example with a gilt laquer dial are very sought after by collectors today. Not only because of their rarity but most of all for the fantastic appearance of a 60’s Rolex gilt dial.
The condition of the watch is good, the case has been previously polished but still remains in good shape for a 60 year old watch, the original ‘thin’ bezel is very sharp. What makes this reference 1803 extremely desirable is of course the gilt lacquer dial which remains in good condition, the gilt writing is very bright and the lacquer of the dial has its original mirror finish and is in overall good condition. It shows a little blemish at the 8′ o clock position and some of the luminous material has been removed during service.
The watch is available on a leather strap or the president bracelet as shown in the pictures. The president bracelet with concealed clasp is newer then the watch and remains in good condition too, its shows some wear but has no worn holes, links or visible pins.
